Minecraft Server Resource Calculator
Estimate the RAM, CPU class, storage, network load, and ports your Minecraft Java server may need. The result is a planning range, not a benchmark or hosting guarantee.
What the calculator treats differently.
The important inputs are separated instead of reducing everything to “players × RAM.”
CPU is not just GHz
Paper can use multiple cores, but its documentation notes that a major source of load is the single-threaded tick loop and recommends strong single-thread performance with at least four threads. PaperMC source ↗
Folia is a separate profile
Folia uses regionized multithreading. PaperMC says it benefits servers where players spread out and ideally runs with at least 16 physical cores. Folia FAQ ↗
View and simulation distance are separate
Simulation distance controls how far living entities are updated, while view distance controls the world data sent to players. The calculator therefore scores them differently. server.properties ↗
Heap is not total machine RAM
Java can use memory outside -Xmx, and the operating system needs headroom too. MSH therefore shows JVM heap and total machine RAM as different results. PaperMC memory notes ↗
Software is not a magic multiplier
The estimator does not assume that Paper, Purpur, Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge is automatically a fixed percentage faster or slower. The selected workload, plugins or mods, entities, world generation, and distances carry most of the estimate. Folia is handled separately where its threading model materially changes the hardware profile.
