Choose whether you are creating repeatable arenas, open-world elite encounters, or scripted quest dungeons. These use different state and reset systems; stacking every mob engine often makes loot ownership and combat balancing difficult.
Pick encounter style
MobArena handles arena waves, while EliteMobs emphasizes custom elite encounters and content. Test one complete encounter loop: entry, mob spawn, death, reward, group wipe and reset. Confirm that your preferred plugin supports the exact server version.
Custom mob production
MythicMobs can drive scripted encounters; ModelEngine and BetterModel concern models and animations and should be compared for your required content pipeline. Verify which mob engine each model integration expects, and test with an ordinary player rather than only console.
Loot integration
MMOItems and MythicCrucible are item systems, not full dungeon plugins. Check any dependency or license on the current project page. Give one test reward, log its source and make sure reconnects and full inventories do not duplicate it.
Quest persistence
BeautyQuests and BetonQuest are alternative quest design approaches. Test whether quest progress survives restarts and whether group members receive rewards fairly. Check cross-world travel, deaths and cancelled runs.
How to choose the stack
Prototype a single dungeon with one encounter engine, one reward path and one reset procedure. Document what happens after a server crash mid-run before expanding to more arenas.
- Download each selected plugin from its official publisher and verify the exact server/version requirements.
- Start a disposable staging world; inspect startup logs and dependency warnings before inviting players.
- Test the main gameplay loop as a non-operator, including failure and restart cases.
- Back up plugin data and world files, document ownership of each feature, then expand the stack one component at a time.
