Direct answer
Vault is an API bridge that lets many Bukkit/Paper plugins talk to a permissions, economy or chat provider. It is not itself a balance database, economy system or permissions manager.
Step-by-step procedure
- Identify which installed plugin provides economy or permissions data (for example, an economy plugin or LuckPerms).
- Install the matching Vault build on a supported backend where dependent plugins use the Bukkit/Paper API.
- Start the server and inspect each dependent plugin’s startup message for whether it detected its required service provider.
- Test a real transaction or permission check using a non-OP account rather than treating green status in
/pluginsas end-to-end proof.
Common mistakes and trade-offs
Adding Vault alone does not give players money, ranks or chat prefixes. A missing provider can leave an otherwise loaded shop plugin unable to operate.
How to verify it worked
Create a reversible small test balance change and verify that the shop and economy provider see the same amount after restart.
Version and platform differences
Proxy-side Velocity plugins use different integration APIs; Vault does not automatically bridge services across separate machines.
