Direct answer
Open the live console through your hosting panel, an attached terminal, or the systemd service’s configured console/log interface. Do not expose RCON publicly just to gain console access.
Recommended procedure
- If using a Minecraft host, open the server’s Console tab in its control panel and authenticate using your own account.
- If self-hosted and attached to a
tmuxorscreensession, reattach to that session instead of launching a second server instance. - If managed by systemd, read logs with
sudo journalctl -u minecraft.service -f(use your real unit name). This shows logs but does not automatically provide an interactive input console. - Run a harmless command such as
listin an actual interactive console to verify access; console commands generally omit the chat/.
Why this matters
A log viewer is not the same as an interactive command console. Starting a second Java process against the same world or port can cause crashes, data loss, or bind errors.
How to verify the result
Confirm that list responds with the current online player count; do not test with destructive administrative commands. Use per-user accounts and limit access to trusted admins.
Version and compatibility notes
RCON requires additional security configuration and is unnecessary for most hosting panels. A service manager may not provide console input unless explicitly configured.
