Direct answer
PlaceholderAPI resolves placeholders through expansions; installing PlaceholderAPI alone does not install every placeholder provider.
Recommended procedure
- Install PlaceholderAPI on a compatible Bukkit/Paper backend and check
/papi list. - Look up the required expansion with
/papi ecloud info EXPANSION, then download it using/papi ecloud download EXPANSIONif it is approved and supported. - Use
/papi reloadafter downloading and test a specific placeholder with/papi parse me %player_name%where appropriate.
Why this matters
Plugins add another compatibility and permission layer. Use the plugin author's current documentation for commands, nodes, and configuration keys.
Important limitation: Some expansions need their owning plugin installed and enabled; expansion syntax and player context vary by provider.
How to verify the result
- Compare the raw placeholder text with the resolved output in the target scoreboard or chat plugin.
Version and compatibility notes
- When a setting, command, or file name differs from this guide, stop and check the documentation for your exact Minecraft/server-software version instead of forcing an old example.
