Direct answer

Use /op PlayerName to grant operator status and /deop PlayerName to revoke it. These commands are powerful; only grant OP to trusted staff.

Recommended procedure

  1. From the trusted server console, enter op PlayerName without the leading slash (or run /op PlayerName as an authorized operator in-game).
  2. Ask the person to reconnect if new permissions do not apply immediately.
  3. Remove access with /deop PlayerName when it is no longer needed.
  4. For granular staff permissions, use a properly configured permissions plugin rather than distributing OP unnecessarily.

Why this matters

Operators can run administrative commands affecting the entire server, including commands that modify or remove world data. OP is not a secure substitute for role-based permissions.

How to verify the result

Check the server console for success or error output, then test the required command with a designated account. If a proxy, permission plugin or admin panel changes effective privileges, inspect its settings as well.

Version and compatibility notes

These examples apply to Java dedicated servers. Exact command permission behavior may vary with your server software and installed permissions plugin.
