Direct answer
A modpack server pack is a specific release bundle, not simply the contents of a client mods folder.
Recommended procedure
- Match the pack version, Minecraft version and declared loader; save the server pack archive and manifest as rollback evidence.
- Extract into a new test directory, inspect packaged scripts, install the required runtime, accept the EULA and launch according to the pack author’s instructions.
- Migrate only validated world/player/config data from the old server, with backups for both the game files and any external databases.
Why this matters
Modded servers are strict about Minecraft version, loader version, mod version, and dependencies. A correct client pack does not automatically mean every client-side mod belongs on the server.
Important limitation: A server pack may intentionally omit visual/client-only mods; copying them back without evidence can cause dedicated-server crashes.
How to verify the result
- Test client login, dimensions, item registries and new chunk generation with the exact matching client pack.
Version and compatibility notes
- When a setting, command, or file name differs from this guide, stop and check the documentation for your exact Minecraft/server-software version instead of forcing an old example.
