Direct answer
IPv4 and IPv6 are separate addressing families. A working Minecraft server can advertise both, but public reachability and firewall permissions must be tested independently.
Recommended procedure
- Confirm the server listens on the desired game port and interfaces.
- For IPv4 home hosting, verify public IPv4 availability and router forwarding; for IPv6, confirm a global IPv6 address and inbound firewall rules.
- Create the appropriate DNS records: A for IPv4 and AAAA for IPv6.
- Test both families from clients that actually support each route.
Why this matters
An AAAA record can direct IPv6-capable clients to a broken path even when IPv4 works. CGNAT prevents conventional inbound IPv4 forwarding but does not automatically make IPv6 usable.
How to verify the result
From external networks, check DNS results and join using each address family; retain the working address family until the other route is confirmed.
Version and compatibility notes
A private LAN IPv4 address and link-local IPv6 address are not suitable public DNS targets.
