Direct answer
Use the modpack publisher’s server files when provided; a CurseForge client export is not automatically a ready-to-run dedicated server.
Recommended procedure
- Record the exact CurseForge pack version and the required Minecraft, Forge/NeoForge/Fabric loader and Java release.
- Download the official server pack for that release or follow the pack author’s documented server generation workflow. Inspect any provided start script before execution.
- Install the matching loader/runtime, accept the Minecraft EULA, then start once and read the first missing-mod or dependency error.
Why this matters
Modded servers are strict about Minecraft version, loader version, mod version, and dependencies. A correct client pack does not automatically mean every client-side mod belongs on the server.
Important limitation: Client-only graphics, minimap or UI mods may be inappropriate on dedicated servers; remove them only as the pack documentation allows.
How to verify the result
- Join with a fresh client installation of that same pack version and verify that persistent worlds and gameplay mods load.
Version and compatibility notes
- When a setting, command, or file name differs from this guide, stop and check the documentation for your exact Minecraft/server-software version instead of forcing an old example.
