Direct answer

In a Minecraft Java server console, enter a command without the initial slash. In player chat, the same command normally begins with / and requires an appropriate permission.

Recommended procedure

  1. For example, use time set day in the Java server console, versus /time set day in-game.
  2. Check whether the specific command comes from vanilla, Bukkit/Paper, a proxy or a plugin before copying syntax.
  3. Test sensitive commands on a temporary world or with a harmless target first.
  4. Grant only the required permission node rather than making all administrators operators.

Why this matters

The console usually acts with server-level authority, while a player command sender has identity, position and permissions. Some commands need a player position or selector and behave differently in a headless console.

How to verify the result

Run a non-destructive command both ways and compare the returned output. If a console command complains that a player is required, invoke it in-game or use documented explicit coordinates/targets.

Version and compatibility notes

Velocity and other proxies have separate consoles and command registries; Bukkit commands cannot always run from a proxy console.
