Direct answer
Pre-generation moves CPU-heavy terrain work out of peak player hours; it does not remove the need for backups, disk space or ongoing performance monitoring.
Recommended procedure
- Decide which worlds (overworld, Nether, End) and playable regions need pre-generation.
- Choose a center and radius in blocks; remember a square radius of 1,000 blocks covers roughly a 2,000 × 2,000 block area.
- Estimate free disk space from a small trial, back up the world and set a quiet maintenance window.
What to change
/chunky start world square 0 0 1000
/chunky progress
/chunky pause- Install the matching official Chunky plugin and run a small test such as
/chunky start world square 0 0 1000. - Watch
/chunky progress; use/chunky pauseif server health or disk capacity degrades. - Run separate tasks for other worlds only after confirming their world names, and retain enough storage for backups.
How to verify the result
Observe completion progress, actual disk growth and chunk delivery on a later exploration test; check the world backup can be restored.
Version and compatibility notes
The Chunky radius is measured in blocks, not chunks. /chunky trim deletes chunks and is not part of ordinary pre-generation; never use trim without an independently verified backup.
