Direct answer
Use a consistent, searchable change log so the next administrator can connect a new bug to a specific deployment.
Recommended procedure
- For every deployment write a short entry: date/time, server/software versions, affected plugins/mods, exact config keys, expected impact, restart performed and person responsible.
- Link the backup or release tag used before the change; avoid storing credentials or sensitive IPs in the log.
- Keep rollback instructions alongside risky changes, such as world upgrades, permission reorganizations or storage migrations.
Why this matters
Maintenance is successful only if you can return to the previous working state. Keep rollback material until the updated server has been verified under normal use.
Important limitation: A git commit can record a file diff, but runtime-only panel changes and database changes need a separate log entry.
How to verify the result
- Ask a teammate to identify the most recent permission change without consulting private chat history.
Version and compatibility notes
- When a setting, command, or file name differs from this guide, stop and check the documentation for your exact Minecraft/server-software version instead of forcing an old example.
