Direct answer

Find XP orb buildup from farms, spawners, or broken collectors and reduce the source instead of only killing entities repeatedly.

What it means

A large population of XP orb entities—often produced by farms or spawners—can become part of the server’s entity-ticking workload and cause localized lag when the source keeps generating more.

If you are a player

  • Check whether the symptom is low FPS on your own computer, high ping/rubber-banding, or the whole server slowing down; these are different problems.
  • Note the exact time, world/area, and action that triggers the lag (exploring, a farm running, saving, many players online, and so on).
  • Ask another player whether they see the same delay. Give the owner a reproducible location/action instead of only saying “the server is laggy.”

If you run the server

  1. Profile the affected spawner/farm area while loaded, and confirm XP-orb ticking or collection really contributes to the slowdown.
  2. Identify why orbs accumulate: unattended grinders, inaccessible collectors, repeated kills, or a plugin/mod generating excessive XP entities.
  3. Reduce orb production or fix the collection path first. If the server software exposes XP-orb merging settings, verify their exact scope and version before changing them.
  4. Test mob farms and player XP pickup after adjusting merging or collection. Do not periodically kill every XP orb as a substitute for finding the source.
  5. Compare MSPT and orb buildup under the same workload after the change.

Important notes

  • More allocated RAM does not make a slow main-thread workload faster. Change heap size only when memory/GC evidence supports it.
