Direct answer
Lag that begins at a particular population suggests work that grows with loaded chunks, active entities, plugin events, network packets or permissions checks.
Identify the failing layer
Each additional player can activate chunks and trigger plugins, but the impact depends on movement, world distribution and gameplay.
First checks and evidence
- Record TPS/MSPT and player count at quiet, medium and peak periods.
- Profile during the peak while players are active, keeping snapshots of worlds and positions.
Admin diagnosis and repair
- Check whether players cluster in one farm/spawn area or spread widely and force more chunks active.
- Optimize the measured expensive task or adjust only the related simulation/activation setting; retest at equivalent count.
Verify the fix: Plot the same MSPT and lag-spike measures at similar player counts before and after the targeted change.
Important safety note
A high player count does not identify a single cause. More RAM may help capacity but does not guarantee faster tick computation.
