Direct answer
Find leaked or excessive database connections and review pool settings before only raising the database connection limit.
What it means
The database server is refusing additional sessions because its connection allowance is exhausted, often from too many active pools, leaked connections, duplicate servers, or an undersized database limit.
If you are a player
- Record the exact command/message or feature that failed and the time it happened.
- If the problem affects only your account, note your permissions/group and whether another player can use the same feature.
- Send the owner the exact wording rather than repeatedly retrying; plugin startup/configuration errors must usually be fixed server-side.
If you run the server
Targeted diagnosis: The database server, not the Minecraft main-thread TPS, is refusing new database sessions. Check SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Threads_connected'; and SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'max_connections'; if you have permission.
- Read the plugin’s first database exception, including the SQL/driver message; do not diagnose from the final “plugin disabled” line.
- Verify database host/port, credentials, TLS requirements, firewall reachability, database type, and plugin-supported driver/version.
- For connection-pool/limit errors, compare active connections with the plugin pool settings and check for duplicate server processes.
- Back up database files/data before repair or migration. Do not delete a locked/corrupt database merely to make the error disappear.
Fix and verify: Check whether multiple plugins or reconnect loops are exhausting the pool, and inspect idle timeout and connection-pool settings. Prefer fixing leaks/retry storms over raising max_connections blindly, which can increase database memory use.
