Direct answer
If a plugin is enabled but appears inactive, test one documented feature and identify its prerequisites: permissions, enabled worlds, integration providers, or configuration flags.
What it means
Loading successfully establishes only that startup code ran. Many plugins are libraries, bridges or APIs with no visible player-facing command. Others require a dependency, separate addon or configuration before becoming useful.
If you are a player
- Check one specific advertised feature with the correct syntax. Note your world, gamemode, account permissions and whether another player sees the same issue.
- Do not assume a missing GUI means the plugin is broken; the feature may be command-only, admin-only or supplied by another plugin.
If you run the server
- Read the plugin’s official feature and installation instructions rather than relying only on
/pluginsbeing green. - Check startup warnings for missing optional providers or unsupported hooks. Verify that the feature is enabled for the active world and not blocked by region or permissions rules.
- Temporarily reproduce on a test server with only the feature’s documented dependencies. If it works there, add competing plugins back one at a time. Do not remove dependencies or player data from production to experiment.
- For proxy plugins, test on the proxy with its own management commands rather than using a Bukkit backend check.
A documented feature succeeds for an authorized test player and has the expected behavior in the targeted world after a clean startup.
