Direct answer

“You are banned from this server” is an access decision, not a network error. Players should contact server staff; owners should identify whether the ban comes from the vanilla ban list, proxy or moderation plugin.

What it means

Bans can be applied by player identity, account UUID, IP address or a network-wide moderation system. Removing one ban-list entry may not remove a separate proxy-level or plugin ban.

If you are a player

  • Read the ban message for its stated reason and appeal route; do not repeatedly attempt to bypass it.
  • If you believe the wrong account was banned, provide staff with your username and the approximate time.

If you run the server

  1. Use the moderation system’s own list or audit log to find the matching ban, issuer, expiry and scope.
  2. On a vanilla Java backend, check banned-players.json and banned-ips.json without hand-editing live files.
  3. For verified mistaken bans, use the system that created the ban; vanilla console commands include pardon <player> and pardon-ip <address>.
  4. If a proxy or external ban plugin controls access, check its database and audit trail rather than only backend files.

Confirm the fix: Test access with the legitimately unbanned account and document who lifted the ban. Avoid displaying or sharing full player IP addresses in public tickets.
