Direct answer
This Leaf option changes how future-based structure-generation work is sequenced. It is not a switch that guarantees faster chunk generation, and it can change the ordering of composition tasks.
This is a Leaf-specific configuration option, not a general Paper or Folia setting. Confirm the key is present in the configuration generated by your own build before changing it.
How to check it
- Confirm that the expensive work really is first-time structure or terrain generation; standing in existing chunks is not a valid comparison.
- Record the Minecraft and Leaf builds, world seed, generator/datapacks, and coordinates of the test area.
- Compare generation time and any errors on a disposable copy of the world rather than deleting production region files.
What to change
- Find the option under performance in the generated Leaf global configuration. The published references show the key, but do not assume their sample default applies to your installed build.
- Change one setting only while the server is stopped, and keep the previous value in the rollback notes. Do not regenerate explored regions to benchmark this option.
- Copy the current configuration and note the previous value before running a controlled test.
Software and version notes
Published configuration path: performance.faster-structure-gen-future-sequencing.
Leaf documents that this feature can change the order of future composition tasks. Any custom world generator or structure datapack is a compatibility risk worth testing separately.
The archived Leaf global YAML documents the 1.21.1 branch; newer official examples differ. Do not copy an older default or missing block into a current server without verifying that release.
Verify the result
Use a fresh, disposable area or cloned test world with the same seed and generators. Compare generated-chunk throughput, crash/warning logs and structure placement; restore the old setting if terrain or structure behavior changes unexpectedly.
Keep the A/B test results, server build, config diff and rollback notes together so the result can be reproduced.
