Direct answer

Generating new chunks while players travel competes with region ticking, chunk worker threads and disk I/O. Folia officially recommends pregeneration before sizing the worker pool.

How to check it

  1. Define a realistic world border or exploration area and calculate the storage required before generating it.
  2. Back up the world and check that the world generator and pregeneration plugin support your precise Folia build.
  3. Record CPU load, free disk space and generation throughput on a staging server during a short test.

What to change

  1. Run a Folia-compatible pregenerator while player load is low; complete one world at a time, monitor disk capacity and avoid other heavy backups during generation.
  2. Stop gracefully, confirm region files and new chunks load correctly, then restore normal public access.

Software and version notes

Compatibility and safety

Do not copy a Paper-only pregeneration command or assume an unfamiliar plugin is thread-safe. A fully pregenerated world can still need chunk loading and I/O, especially when player locations shift.

Verify the result

Travel through pregenerated areas with multiple players and compare first-visit hitching, worker contention and storage growth.
